In 2004 a product developer contacted HSV with the desire to develop a new and better protective glove for the fishing industry for use when filleting fish.
Normally, a metal glove is used by the workers. The employees were complaining that the gloves, besides being cold and wet, had a general lack of comfort.
Therefore, the product developer turned his gaze towards the textile industry and contacted HSV.
The goal was to produce a glove made of fabric that could help with the day-to-day struggles of the employees. The glove would have to be able to withstand cutting and at the same time be gentle to the hands. HSV began to produce different prototypes, and ended up with a finished filleting glove, where the exterior is made of Kevlar, and the interior of cotton and polypropylene. The Kevlar ensures that the glove is safe whilst filleting, and the inside of cotton and polypropylene gives the user a warm and dry hand while working. The new protective glove is an example of how we at HSV continually find new ways to use textiles. We also strive at HSV to find new and different industries, who might not have seen the possibilities of using textiles in their projects.
With the gauntlet, we were capable of creating a durable product with the same protective qualities as the original metal gauntlet. At the same time we also satisfied the employees’ expectations for a softer and warmer work gauntlet.
